Description:
Our door supervisors, security officers, store detectives, CIT staff are all facing increasing levels of violence in the workplace, of that there is no doubt. Although, in theory at least, those security operatives are better trained than they were maybe five years ago, we still need to closely monitor whether the levels of training given to our people for licensing purposes is sufficient to keep them as safe as possible whilst they are working for us.
All employers must carry out assessments of the risks to their operatives. By the nature of the work, some security operatives may be called upon to detain a person or to stop a person offering violence. If this is the case the employers have a duty to provide safe equipment and working practices. They must also provide proper information, instruction and training. APR training is the only licenced training course in the UK that leads to an operative being able to detain a person using plastic cuffs.
